is there any way I can get a written pattern for the arcade stitch

I found a pattern for a baby afghan for this stitch, I really love it. The problem is for the beginning chain they say it should be 6+2. I have no clue what that means, I would like the afghan to be about 34×34 or 36×36. I know I am really imposing on you because this is not your pattern but I get no answer from the people I got the pattern from. If you can help I would appreciate it so much.
